COMMENTS

See JLA #8 for comments on Superman's, Wonder Woman's, Batman's and Aquaman's dream realities.

The Flash's dream reality merges the idea of the Speed Force with the Source of the New Gods. The ring can be thought of as the hiding place for the costume that Barry Allen always used or as an analogy to Hal Jordan's origin (rings, dying aliens/gods and all that). The solidified speed force suit will appear in the regular Flash series which actually refers to this story (unsurprisingly they were both written by Grant Morrison). That hat is the same as the original Flash's.

Green Lantern's dream reality is never actually seen but we see him. He has invented the identity of Weaponeer 550, a dictator in the Anti-Matter Universe of Qward. He tells us that his masters are the Qwardians of the Galaxy. What we see here is the clear opposite of a Green Lantern, belonging to an Anti-Matter universe with traditional Qwardian yellow ring.

This issue leads into the Rock of Ages arc.

For the record this issue we see in order: Explosive Arrow, Net Arrow (only mentioned), Boxing Glove Arrow, Hand Cuff Arrow, Boomerang Arrow and finally the Boxing Glove Arrow again.

SYNOPSIS

The Leaguers continue in their dream realities as the Flash is brought into the system. Each of them faces crises and dangers as we learn the origin and plan of the Key. Via his forced evolution using psycho-chemicals he hopes to join with his conceptual mate, the Lock, which would grant him access to Negative Space and complete control or normal space. The crux of his plan uses the fact that the League always wins. So when they all defeat the dream reality and wake up, the accompanying energy release will give him the power he needs to crack the Lock.

Slowly the Leaguers unwitting follow the Key's plan. First Superman and Batman join up and then the entire League manage to join up. Meanwhile the Flash's hyper metabolism has awoken him early. The Key deals with him easily as the rest of the JLA wakes up. However before the Key can make use of the energy he is defeated by Green Arrow and one of his fathers Boxing Glove Arrows.

In the aftermath, Green Arrow joins the team while the JLA return the Key to the hospital. Meanwhile a sinister new force prepares to attack the Justice League.
