This was originally posted by Michael Standish to the rac.dcu newsgroup (used with permission). This evening, Dan Raspler was the guest of an AOL chat room. The stated purpose was to discuss the new roster. Howard Porter and Phil Jimenez also stopped by. As expected, there wasn't a whole lot of discussion. There were a few spoilers/titbits I thought were interesting enough to report. Many of these have been reported elsewhere. Thanks to Troy Esq for inspiration. Members of the new roster are mentioned below. S P O I L E R S In general, the crowd was actually pretty well behaved. Folks seemed most concerned/disappointed about the inclusion of Huntress and the exclusion of Black Canary and Green Arrow. Dan says Aquaman is his favourite member. He didn't say why. Tomorrow Woman is returning and she has her own 'Girlfrenzy' special the last week of April. Zauriel is Zauriel, not Hawkman. Huntress and Batman's relationship will be explored in future issues. The big 7 are not going to be significantly de-emphasised. There will not be any Steel/Barda/Huntress (for example) stories any time soon. Orion and Barda show up in #17 and more or less demand to be members of the JLA. #19 is told from Oracle's point of view. Oracle will not be a public member. The book is behind schedule and there are more writer and artists fill-ins to come. Waid is doing 4 issues and Jorgensen is drawing #17. Dan would not confirm a members death in #17. When asked when we would see what happened between #15 and #16, Dan said they were just talking about that today--maybe it would be in another 'Secret Files'. JLA Jr. is now Young Justice. Young Heroes In Love has not been cancelled. Porter and Morrison have signed exclusive contracts with DC. They are contracted to JLA till at least 1999. Porter says JLA is his dream job. An old alien JLA villain appears in #21. Guesses included Starro, Kanjar Ro, and Despro. Adam Strange appears in 20/21, so my guess is Kanjar Ro. The team has talked about a JSA team-up. After someone suggested it, Dan agreed that it's too bad they didn't think of doing it for #21 (the first JLA/JSA team-up appeared in JLA v.1 #21/22). Dan seemed to suggest nothing was for sure with the Crime Syndicate as far as any future appearances. Dan said Black Canary wouldn't want to be a member of JLA due to painful memories of Ollie Queen. Porter had just turned in his first cover (19?) featuring Superman with a big, flowing red cape and Dan was very happy about this. Someone joked that they bet Oracle gets the 'floating chair'. Apparently Wizard reported that J'Onn was not an official member and was going to become an advisor to the group. Dan told a J'Onn fan not to worry; J'Onn would see plenty of action soon. Dan said Huntress and Plastic Man would prove themselves in #17. Dan said the new member he questioned most was Plastic Man, but that he now loved the way Grant handled PM. Dan said there were no Animal Man appearances any time soon. Grant told him he said all he had to say about Buddy. Dan and Howard were very pleasant guys and did their best in a hectic and sometimes hostile environment. There's a story featuring Ray 'Atom' Palmer coming up. No promise was made to kidnap him from Dan Jurgens. --Michael Standish ![]() [News] [Articles and Interviews] [Golden Age] [Silver Age] [Bronze Age] [New Era] [Hotlist] [Downloads Page] [Webrings] [Homepage] [E-Mail] ![]() JLA, Related Icons and images are copyright DC Comics or their original creators/artists and are used without permission.
