Overview

There is a nature within each of us that seeks to be free, to escape our bonds and to push through the on coming tide. This essence is epitomised by those that call themselves Mister Miracle and by the second, Scott Free, in particular. Born on the paradise of New Genesis, raised on the hell of Apokolips, he eventually found freedom on the planet Earth among the very mortals that worship his kind. Scott was taught the fleeting nature of human life by his first wife and by the incredible stunts of Thaddeus Brown - the original Mister Miracle. Aided by Brown's diminutive sidekick Oberon, Scott became the second Mister Miracle and launched into a world where he was forever escaping and cheating the Black Racer out of his immortal soul.

In due time Scott Free was joined on Earth by rebel Female Fury Big Barda and the two were married. Existing as members of the newly formed Justice League International they made a place for themselves in the suburban world. During this time Scott trained Shilo Normal to be the third Mister Miracle before he left for New Genesis upon the advising of Highfather to claim his godhood.

Now Scott stands on the edge of inheriting the position of ruler of New Genesis after the death of Highfather by the hands of Ares. Meanwhile Shilo Norman continues his training and performances on Earth aided by Ted Brown (the son of the original Mister Miracle) and Oberon.

Background

In a dimension removed from our own lays the twin worlds of New Genesis and Apokolips, locked seemingly in a never ending spiral of war. A war between the bright peaceful New Gods of New Genesis and the warlike hoards of Darkseid of Apokolips. The war had raged for aeons until the stage when the two forces agreed a pact that would, at least temporally, end the war. The plan was for Highfather the ruler of New Genesis and Darkseid to exchange their sons to seal the peace deal. Darkseid gave over his first son Orion to be raised on New Genesis while, the as yet unnamed son of Highfather (and an as yet unknown woman, not Avia wife of Highfather as before thought) was to be raised on Apokolips. The child was given over to Granny Goodness to raise in her "orphanage", he was dubbed Scott Free in some sort of twisted humour. The brutal training and the repressive beatings pounded and pounded on the individual nature of Scott but he never let go, never gave up.

There were two events at the orphanage that shaped the future life of Scott Free. Scott was highly skilled, perhaps more skilled that the trainers realised. One day a young trainee who had been tormenting him died instead of him during an accident, for the first time Scott looked upon the face of the Black Racer - the aspect of Death for the New Gods - and he resolved to cheat his destiny, to be free forever. The second major event was his escape aided by Big Barda, the then leader of the Female Furies - Darkseid's shock troopers. Scott managed to escape to Earth with the help of the visionary scientist Himon and the New God Metron.

The Boom Tube that was Scott's escape route deposited him outside London, England at the turn of the nineteenth century. Stunned and weakened he was nursed to health by Fancy Goodbody. In due course the two were married. For fifty years Scott and Fancy moved around the United States to prevent the people noticing how Scott did not age. Then after the death of Fancy, Scott and Metron spent the next fifty years visiting many places including Dodge City and Gateway City. Eventually Scott became friends with circus escape artist Thaddeus Brown - Mister Miracle.

Years earlier Thaddeus accompanied by his assistant, the former clown Oberon had adventured into war torn Vietnam searching for Brown's missing son who had been declared dead by the government. In truth his son had fallen in with an Intergang operation headed by a criminal known as Steel Hand who was also hunting him because he had screwed up the local Intergang operation. After confronting Steel Hand, Brown returned to the US where he prepared a comeback tour as Mister Miracle. Steel Hand tried to kill Brown in revenge and even with the intervention of Scott Free he died.

Scott continued the work of Brown and became the second Mister Miracle combining the training of Oberon with the super science of New Genesis to become the ultimate super-escape artist. Eventually Ted Brown would join the group and help his father's successor. Granny Goodness sent the forces of Apokolips repeatedly to Earth to retrieve Scott Free, including the Female Furies, Kanto the Assassin, Dr Bedlam and Virman Vundarbar.

Eventually Big Barda fled to Earth where she was reunited with Scott and they were married. Scott and Barda fought battle after battle with the forces of Granny Goodness to remain free. Scott and Barda were married and then moved to a quiet suburban town where they tried to be free, tried to live as normal people. However Scott found himself always into the battle to free others, as a member of the Justice League or performing as Mister Miracle he found that he could make a difference.

In time Scott would be reconciled with Highfather for handing him over to Darkseid, but he never gave up the craving to be free, to always escape his destiny. His time in the League was some of the happiest times in his life but his participation was cut short when his "agent" Funky Flashman signed him up for what Scott thought was going to be an international tour, it actually turned out to be an interstellar tour conducted by the massive commercial enterprise of the Cluster. Upon returning to Earth Scott found that the world thought that he was dead (a robot duplicate of him had been left by the Cluster into fooling the JLI into not going after him, but it had been destroyed in a battle with Despero). Feeling that this was as good a time as any he quite the League and decided to spend more time with Barda.

Moving to New York, Scott began to train a new Mister Miracle - Shilo Norman, a street kid turned student that he had known years ago. Shilo was a different Mister Miracle, but in many ways he was similar to Scott each had survived a repressive childhood with an instinct for individuality. A visit from Highfather convinced Scott to leave Earth and return to New Genesis with Big Barda to assume the mantle of a New God. The rite of ascension that was his birth right.

The corruption of the Source by the murder of Darkseid by Orion while in it caused a direct change in the New Gods, they became more warlike, quick to anger and wanton with their displays of power. When the day of the ascension ritual came Scott found that he could not go through with it, it was against everything that he had ever stood for. It meant assuming yet another identity, another name that was not his own, he rejected his heritage as the next in line to rule New Genesis and fled to Earth. In the process Big Barda was killed by Granny Goodness and her spirit claimed by the Black Racer.

Sneaking back into New Genesis Scott found himself enveloped by the source that explored with him the nature of his need to be free. Scott then claimed the powers that were his birth right in order to save Barda. In the process he led the souls of the dead - including Big Barda - to freedom and straight into a three way battle with the corrupted forces of New Genesis and those of Apokolips. In the process he rejected Highfather's right to name him and found out from Darkseid that his powers were actually the Alpha Energy, the antithesis of Darkseid's Omega Energy it allows him to heal the sick, renew the soul, it limits are near boundless it can even raise the dead (at least the dead of New Genesis). Scott brought the battle to a final conclusion by returning to life all the fallen, in the process he voluntarily gave up his powers. Highfather then banished him from New Genesis.

Barda and Scott returned to Earth, where they agreed to try a trial separation due to the strain that the recent events had put on their marriage. Scott started working for Oberon's Miracle Workers a collective of people that worked together to help people in trouble any way they could. Meanwhile Barda sparred with Wonder Woman on Paradise Island in an effort to work out her warrior instinct. He ran into forces from Apokolips and in the process discovered that both worlds of the New Gods had disappeared, so he set about to investigate the disappearance with the help of the other New Gods that were on Earth at the time. Now With the worlds of Apokolips and New Genesis merged Scott resides there now that the tainting of the source is no longer turning the minds of his friends against him.

The differences between them healed Scott and Barda prepare for Scott to once again become the ruler of New Genesis but this time it is different. Highfather is dead and the New Gods desperately need a new leader. However Scott layed plans with the wizard Shazam so that he can give up the Alpha Energy once and for all. Giving up the energy he returned to Earth to resume the role of Mister Miracle with Big Barda.

Powers and Abilities

Thaddeus Brown: Brown as Mister Miracle was the world's greatest escape artist and along with Oberon designed many of the stunts that Scott and Shilo still perform today.

Scott Free: As Mister Miracle: Super Escape Artist, Scott uses a number of technical gadgets to aid his already considerable skill such as complex lock picks and electronics built into his costume. All this is controlled by his "Mother Box" a sentient computer linked to the Source which can rearrange matter at command. He also used a device called a "Hyper Cube", a highly advanced computer with sensory and holographic abilities. Another part of his suit is his "Aero-discs" that are levitating circular devices that he can stand on to fly. In the past he has also used such devices as Stun and Flash grenades. Scott has recently received the power of the Alpha Energy, through he soon gave it up.

Shilo Norman: Shilo used a costume similar to Scott's with the exception that his Mother Box has been given the voice of his favourite pop star rather than the normal pings that she uses. He has also developed gadgets of his own including forcefields.
