Previous News
As of today's Mania Daily Buzz [Jan 21st 98] Mark Waid is staying on for an extra two issues. As those of you that have seen the previews section Waid is standing in for Grant Morrison on JLA #18 and #19 with a story about how mad scientist Doctor Julian September alters the origins of the JLA members.
Now Mark Waid will cover JLA #20 and #21 which sees the return of fan favourite Adam Strange and a return to a Rann last seen in ruins after an alien invasion in the pages of Green Lantern.
Conjecture: Now that Preacher writer Garth Ennis has signed an exclusive contract with DC Comics it has been confirmed by him that he is working on a “ ‘bold reinterpretation’ of one of DC's classic characters”. At the sametime we know that Zauriel was denied the Hawkman name because of behind the scenes plans. It is the hope of this webmaster that we will be seeing Ennis writing Hawkman.
ROSTER INCREASED TO 14
In a surprise move it was anounced that the JLA roster had been increased from 12 to 14. We can expect to see the full roster in JLA #16 in a story entiled Camelot. In related matters we can expect to see JLA actually goinging into the 5th dimension sometime in the second year (home of an old Superman imp).
FUTURE DC PLANS
This from the DC Comics website:
JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE NAIL
ELSEWORLDS. For want of a nail... there is no Superman to be part of the World's Mightiest Heroes. A flat tire on the Kent's pickup truck dramatically affects the rest of the once-familiar heroes of the DC Universe in this riveting miniseries written and drawn by Alan Davis.
NEW ROSTER
It would seem that Morrison has had a rethink on the actual final 12 heroes to be in the pantheon of the JLA. Wizard quotes:
Integrally Wonder Woman does not equal Hera, according to the AOL boards.
JLA Junior NEWS FROM WIZARD AND NEWSARAMA
The status of the JLA Jnr. project seems to be increasing it has expanded from seemingly a normal rumoured story arc in the JLA Wizard special to a full blown two or three issue mini-series to lead off a possible continuing title. Apparently Grant Morrison is not now co-writting the project but it is instead being written by Todd Dezago and pencilled by Humberto Ramos (the distinctive original artist on Impulse).
It also seems that Dan Jurgens is trying to get the green light for a Teen Titans: Year One (a project originally proposed allegedly by Mark Waid) and Titans of Justice, a mini-series that would reunite the original Titans in the present day with the option of an on going series.
FURTHER JSA RUMOURS
Heeding fans pleas Dan Raspler is quoted as saying, "A quick word to all JSA fans out there. We know. Trust me". When asked is this would mean a 2nd generation team revamp he replied, "Trust Me. Sheesh."
In a recent AOL chat Morrison said that he would be doing a JSA/JLA team up in the second year that would introduce a new owner of the Thunderbolt. He said that, "It'll be the remnants of the JSA and a couple of surprises." Interesting.
OTHER NEWS
ALL this from Newsarama, 3rd October.
CRISIS, FINALLY
A long-hoped-for and recently rumored project will soon be on its way. DC has confirmed that a CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS Hardcover collection is being prepared for a late 1998 release.
The landmark maxi-series will be collected as a high-end, deluxe edition with enhanced coloring and production values. And to top it off, original series artist GEORGE PEREZ will team up with ALEX ROSS to provide the cover to this special edition, which most likely will appear as a retail poster as well. "Alex learned about it he asked me if he could paint over my pencils. Now I seldom relinquish my privilege of finishing my own work, but who am I to turn down Alex Ross?" said Perez. "Alex had two stipulations though. He wanted the golden-age Superman on the front part of the cover and he wanted me to draw every character who appeared in the series. I figure that will be about 500-600 characters. Of course, I said YES."
From Newsarama August 1st 1997:
-- MARK WAID checked in with a word about his upcoming JLA: YEAR
ONE
maxi-series (co-written by Brian Augustyn and penciled by Barry
Kitson).
"The first rule of JLA: YEAR ONE vis-a-vis previously established
continuity is "Do no harm," but while adhering to the
spirit of the
original series, we are tweaking things here and there if we can
get a
better overall story out of it," said Waid.
Some of the tweaks? Waid confirms SNAPPER CARR will be featured
in the
mini-series as the JLA mechanic and all-around grease monkey.
Also look for
GREEN ARROW to join the original JLA line-up during the series,
a
pre-membership appearance by the ATOM, and the very first meeting
between
Green Arrow and Black Canary.
From Newsarama July 11th 1997:
