Some quick notes from the JLA panel at San Diego con. Anyone else who was there, please add more info...

Pros in attendance:
Grant Morrison, Howard Porter, Mark Millar, Mark Waid, Dan Raspler

The whole team seems very energetic and excited about JLA. Waid and Morrison both expressed their interest in continuing to write about heroes who are positive and uplifting, rather than angst-ridden.

Animal Man will be appearing as a guest, in his old costume (?!). Aztek will be guest-starring and his story will conclude. A new Hourman will be appearing soon.

Raspler & Morrison have come across a very clever roster for the remaining members. When they hit upon this idea, they changed their decisions about who some of the members will be. Waid said that when he saw the list of the new members, he just stared at it for 10 minutes, because it was so cool. We'll see this play out by issue 16.

Morrison is bowing to fan requests and adding more women to the JLA roster. He said he didn't feel the DC female characters, other than Wonder Woman, were powerful or iconic enough, but he's found a way around that.

They haven't figured out how to keep the name "JLA" but lose the word "America" from the team name.

Flash is Morrison's favourite character to write in JLA: Aquaman is his least favourite, although he feels he's getting a better handle on it.

Waid is working on JLA - Year One with pencils and inks by Kitson. It'll focus on how these disparate heroes became a team, and will end with the Atom joining.

Morrison's favourite JLA villain is Despero, Waid's is the android with all the JLA's powers, Millar's is Darkseid.

Morrison & Millar are bringing some John Broome-ish elements to Flash: Grant described a scene where Flash runs through a prism at lightspeed and splits into 7 different coloured Flashes.

Millar is writing a mini-series starring the angelic character whose name escapes me but he's the new Hawkman-like guy.

Morrison speaks in a very thick Scottish accent and is sometimes difficult for us dull Americans to understand.

Mark Millar is very young and very funny. Howard Porter is very young and very quiet.

We'll see Snapper Carr in JLA Year One. Waid has given him a purpose: he'll be the JLA's mechanic. Snapper will also be appearing in the new JLA (how, was unspecified...).

There will be a new Johnny Thunder in upcoming issues.

That's it!
