SECTION 1: MEMBERSHIP.

Corrections for this section by Zilch of the JLA Message Board.

1.1 What JL members have died in the line of duty?

Kind of amazing isn't it. The original series managed to go 258 issues before actually killing a member (JLA not JSA), they could never manage that these days.

Zilch from the JLA Message Board points out that until you see the body then the character isn't dead. This would seem to apply to Green Arrow I and the second Crimson Fox sister.

1.2 Which JLA members have come back from the dead?

Superman, Wonder Woman, Metamorpho (yet he's dead again)

1.3 What are the members of the JSA currently doing?

  • Atom I - Killed during the battle with Exhant. Survived by Damage and his godson Nuklon.
  • Batman (Golden Age) - No longer exists post-Crisis.
  • Black Canary I - Died of cancer. Her spirit was seen recently in an issue of Starman.
  • Doctor Fate I - Kent Nelson ascended as an energy being in the Books of Fate series. Nabu became a Lord of Chaos.
  • Doctor Mid-nite I - Killed during the battle with Exhant. Rumour of a new Dr Mid-nite (non-spandex) in the works.
  • Flash I - Currently semi-active along side Flash III (Wally West)
  • Green Lantern I - Active as Sentinel. Will appear in an upcoming GL/Sentinel mini-series.
  • Hawkgirl I - Absorbed into the Hawk Avatar - Karter Hol (Hawkman III).
  • Hawkman I - Absorbed into the Hawk Avatar - Karter Hol (Hawkman III).
  • Hourman I - Killed during the battle with Exhant. Survived by a son (Hourman II) and is the ancestor of the latest Hourman (first appeared in JLA (third series) #12).
  • Huntress (Golden Age) - No longer exists post-Crisis. An updated version guest-stars from time to time in the Batman books.
  • Johnny Thunder - Living in a care home suffering from memory problems. Grant Morrison has hinted that the Thunderbolt could get a new owner. However the Thunderbolt is currently "owned" by Kiku of the original Thunderbolt tribe.
  • Miss America - Depowered and retired.
  • Mister Terrific - Killed during a reunion with the JLA.
  • Power Girl - Was never a member of the JSA post-crisis.
  • Red Tornado II - Last seen as a member of Primal Force.
  • Robin (Golden Age) - No longer exists post-Crisis.
  • Sandman I - In retirement. Last seen in an issue of Starman. His early tales form the ongoing story in Sandman Mystery Theatre.
  • Spectre - Currently active, nearing the end of his own series.
  • Starman I - Retired. Jack Knight (his son) continues the work of Starman.
  • Star-Spangled Kid - Became a member of Infinity Inc. Dead.
  • Superman (Golden Age) - Never existed post-Crisis.
  • Wildcat I - Still running his gym. Recently teamed up with Batman.
  • Wonder Woman (Golden Age) - The original never existed post-crisis however John Bryne is sending Diana's mother back in time to become a Golden Age Wonder Woman for a few issues.

1.4 What former members are currently in limbo?

Hawkman III - Currently in the realm of the Hawkgod. Rumour was that he was going to be the mystery Avenger, but it is known that one of the editors has plans for him because Morrison was not allowed to call Zauriel Hawkman.

1.5 What ever happened to Extreme Justice?

While the former JLA editor Rubin Diaz has hinted that Captain Atom and co are still active in the DCU, certain events and other writers have acted to undermine this. So far:

1.6 What ever happened to the Justice League Task Force?

  • Martian Manhunter - A member of the current League.
  • Ray - Guest-starred in a recent issue of Superman.
  • Gypsy - Unknown
  • Despero/L-ron - Guest appeared recently in Supergirl.
  • Triumph - See below.

1.7 Was Triumph a founding member of the Justice League?

The answer is no and for the hard of thinking that is NO. In the words of Mr Priest himself (via DejaNews):

"And Triumph was NOT there at the beginning of the JLA. He had one adventure with heroes who LATER BECAME the JLA, but they were not a team at that time."

In fact Triumph was blasted ten years into the future during the mentioned story and was wiped from the memories of the others. He later became a member of the JLTF but due to a complicated storyline involving the death of a friend, a memorial, an offer by Neron and the accidental lighting of said candle, time was once again altered so that he never lost those ten years. The intention of Priest was again in his own words:

"No, Triumph got his missing 10 years back, only to discover he's even *more* reviled and *more* of an outcast. He's had ten more years of butting into peoples' business. EVERYONE in the DCU knows Triumph now. He's been around and active from the beginning of the Silver Age and has aged into a bitter, Prince Namor-type maverick."

It seems therefore that Triumph is a contemporary of Superman, Black Canary II, Hal, Barry, etc. but was never part of the circle that was the JLA.
