THE JLA WATCHTOWER

Since the defeat of the Hyperclan, the Justice League of America has based its operations in the Watchtower, an awesome construct centered in the moon's Sea of Tranquillity - quite near Neil Armstrong's first steps on the lunar surface. With walls of promethium, liquid crystal windows and metals mined from the Justice League's recent ill-fated satellite headquarters, this is perhaps the greatest headquarters the JLA has ever known. The Watchtower also utilizes advanced technology that was recovered from the Hyperclan, including small Martian scout ships known as "Jump-Ships" as well as various forms of monitoring systems with which the League can keep an eye on Earth.

THE KEY

  1. Solar Tower - This large monolith is fitted entirely with massive solar panels that provide power to the Watchtower. There are no rooms in it, save for the observation deck at the top.
  2. Observation Deck
  3. Laboratory Building 3a - Research Lab; 3b - Medical Lab; 3c - Martian Jumpship shuttle hanger.
  4. Armoury - Though a few JLA members do not require weapons or spaceships, the JLA maintains an arsenal of powerful weapons, spacesuits and space faring vessels should the need arise. There is also a supply of breathing apparatus, for those who can survive in space and merely need provided oxygen, such as Superman and the Martian Manhunter.
  5. Steel’s Workshop
  6. Hall of Justice - Fittingly nestled in the uppermost level of the Watchtower, the JLA meeting room is perhaps the most important area of the Justice League's headquarters, where Earth's greatest heroes hold counsel around a round table not unlike that of Arthurian legend. Each seat is personalized with the emblem of whoever sits there.
The JLA database houses information on various superhumans, as well as all current and former Leaguers. It is limited to what information has been revealed to the League at large. For instance, the JLA database does not contain the secret identities of the Batman and Superman.
  7. Monitor Womb - A large chamber filled from top to bottom with screens, this is perhaps the most powerful media monitoring station known to the world. In here, the League can view various channels around the world simultaneously and thus monitor the entire Earth. It is a creation of both Martian technology and S.T.A.R. labs mechanics.
  8. Hydroponic Forests - Here sunlight gathered by the solar tower is converted into oxygen by a process of accelerated photosynthesis using alien plant species from low visibility environments. The level of oxygen that is supplied to the rest of the Watchtower is controlled at a computer station next to the Hall of Justice.
  9. Deep water tanks - In order to supply water to the Watchtower, and make Aquaman feel more at home, the lowest level houses a large-scale aquarium. The deep water tank is also connected to the recreation pool that is housed several floors higher.
  10. Teleporters - Using technology developed by S.T.A.R. Labs, the JLA travel to and from the Watchtower by way of teleport booths using ambient matter, a phenomenon which exists in two places simultaneously and can be folded through space. The JLA transporters link streams of ambient matter to Earth-bound transporters maintained at various government facilities. When a JLA member steps into the teleporter, they are literally folded to the location of the opposite tube through a "revolving door." Thus, the teleportation booths on Earth can only send one to another booth and not to just any decided location. To specify destination, one must type in the code for the booth one wishes to be teleported to.
  11. Reception - Here the JLA can receive large groups of people such as reporters. Right next to the reception area is a row of teleport booths that are specifically maintained for guests to the Watchtower and not for actual JLA members.
  12. Secure facility
  13. Living Quarters - Each Justice League member has their own auxiliary living quarters for extended stays in the Watchtower. Located in the same wing are several lounges, a large kitchen, and a various dining areas.
    13a - Lounge; 13b - Kitchen; 13c -Dining area
  14. Bulk teleport hanger - There are also some bulk teleporters, created by Batman, to transport large equipment and/or large groups of people at once.
  15. Engineering control - To compensate for the moon's lighter gravity, the Watchtower uses technology that maintains a more Terran environment in the immediate vicinity of the HQ.
  16. Trophy room - Many keepsakes and souvenirs of past Justice League encounters are on display here. These souvenirs include: the central processing unit of the artificial intelligence IF, an assemblage of trick arrows used by the late Oliver Queen and various incarnations of previous member Booster Gold's costume/armor.
  17. Villain gallery - This room serves to display and showcase the various foes the JLA has fought over the years.
  18. Games/Recreation/Simulators - In order to hone their skills as a team, using their powers in tandem with one another, the JLA members train in a battle simulation room, with virtual reality images mentally programmed by J'onn J'onzz. They are also equipped with a standard games/recreation room in order to relax and enjoy themselves.
  19. Gymnasium/Saunas
  20. Pool (connected to deep water tank)
  21. Park
  22. Private teleporters - As mentioned above, the Earth-bound booths are located at various government facilities around the country. There is only one exception. Batman, not wishing to force himself to be dependent on another to provide transport for him, developed a home-made teleporter based on the S.T.A.R. Labs models. His booth is located in the Batcave and only he knows the code to reach it from another booth.
  23. Atmosphere control
  24. Tunnels to shuttle bay
  25. Stairs to lower levels
