Phantom Zone Projector
Pre-Crisis: Phantom Zone Projector was a small lamp-like device that “illuminated” a cone directly in front of it. Anybody caught in the beam, normally a shackled prisoner, would be “projected” sideways into the unearthly Phantom Zone.
Post-Crisis: While banished to the Phantom Zone by the villain Dominus Superman encountered a holographic spectre of his zealot ancestor Kem-L. That Kem-L created a device called a Soloton Wave Generator that allowed Superman to escape the Zone. Sometime later Professor Hamilton altered the generator from a wearable conveyance to a static projectore. It was this Projector that allowed Superman and Lois Lane to visit the Phantom Zone Krypton. A subsequent version of the Projector was incorporated into the Fortress of Solitude as a gateway like device.
